CMC Mountaineering Skills Seminar
Who: CMC members and nonmembers interested in participating in CMC mountaineering trips and expeditions. To participate in a technical mountaineering climb or expedition with the CMC, all members must demonstrate proficiency in all skills taught during this seminar.
What: Learn and demonstrate proficiency in the core mountaineering skills.
• Gear Review - We will review all gear used on a typical expedition. Participants should bring any length rope for knots(optional), a climbing harness, and 4x locking carabiners. If you have slings, prusik cords, pulleys, helmet, additional carabiners, and other relevant gear, feel free to bring them as well.
• Knots - Figure eight knot (on a loop and bite), Overhand knot, Butterfly knot, Prusik hitch, Clover hitch, Munter hitch, Water knot.
• Rope Management - Glacial travel, short roping and how to move as a rope team.
• Rescue Techniques - Self-Arrest, Crevasse Rescue and Belay escape.
Where: CMC Campground, Devils Lake
