Join the Chicago Mountaineering Club for our annual beginning of season climb at Mississippi Palisades State Park.
Public Outings are open to non-members, but the number of registration openings is limited. This outing will be held at Mississippi Palisades State Park. There are campsites available to reserve in the park here. We will also have an outing running at our usual site in Devil's Lake State Park this weekend.
Most people arrive Friday evening, but some do come up early Saturday. Please make sure you arrive by 8:30am to attend the mandatory Morning Meeting, which covers the inherent risks of outdoor climbing, and club announcements. We will also introduce the Rope Leaders in attendance, and announce where that day’s climbing party will be headed. The group will most likely meet at the campsites at Mississippi Palisades State Park for the debrief and then move to a crag to climb (most likely the "Quadrangle" area, which includes the Sentinel.)
We will be setting anchors for multiple top-ropes for the group's use; there are NO bolted sport routes at Mississippi Palisades, but some routes have bolts at the top for setting anchors. If you have a rope and the gear for establishing a top-rope anchor, your contribution is welcome.
*** If you are applying to become a member of the CMC, please NOTE the dates of the outings you attend, and the names of the Rope Leaders you climb with. You will need that information for your application.***
NOTE: The CMC may cancel public outings, and refund all paying registrants, if not enough Rope Leaders are present. This hasn't happened yet, but SAFETY COMES FIRST! The Outings Chair has full and entire discretion to make this determination. Participation in climbing activities by non-members will not be permitted.
