Public Outings are open to non-members, but the number of registration openings is limited. Our private campground, just outside Devil’s Lake State Park, is available to anyone climbing with the club, and costs only $20/person for the entire weekend.
Most people arrive Friday evening, but some do come up early Saturday. Please make sure you arrive by 8:30am to attend the mandatory Morning Meeting, which covers the inherent risks of outdoor climbing, and club announcements. We will also introduce the Rope Leaders in attendance, and announce where that day’s climbing parties will be headed. We will be driving into the park and parking for the day in lots nearest to our climbing destination. You need to have a Wisconsin State Park sticker on your vehicle to park within the park. Carpooling is encouraged. Many hikes from the parking areas to the bluffs are quite strenuous.
We will be setting anchors for multiple top-ropes for the group's use; there are NO bolted sport routes at Devil’s Lake, so you can leave your quick-draws at home. If you have a rope and the gear for establishing a top-rope anchor, your contribution is welcome; lots of webbing is most helpful at Devils Lake, as trees and boulders are plentiful. It is common for us to have 6-10 ropes setup for each climbing party.
A followup email will be sent to registrants explaining the campground and outing in more detail.
*** If you are applying to become a member of the CMC, please NOTE the dates of the outings you attend, and the names of the Rope Leaders you climb with. You will need that information for your application.***
NOTE: The CMC may cancel public outings, and refund all paying registrants, if not enough Rope Leaders are present. This hasn't happened yet, but SAFETY COMES FIRST! The Outings Chair has full and entire discretion to make this determination. Participation in climbing activities by non-members will not be permitted.
